The contractors

So the first guy--not the first FIRST guy, but the guy we hired to do the work, Dan Stultz Design Build, was a joke. He basically took our money--nay, demanded it, and did about half the work and took off. He'd not show for WEEKS.  Finally, in early August, I fired him. It was clear he didn't want to be on this job, and the work his guys did was shoddy at best, and had to be reworked SEVERAL times.

In the mix of it all; however, Natasha introduced me to Scott Reed from Capital City Custom Home Improvement.  He had helped me out by doing a solid for me over at Copper, by hanging a door right before the showing there. He woudn't take payment, but wanted to see the new house at Denton.

He (looking back) saw Dan for what he was and knew he was abandoning the job. I was too optimistic to see it...however, we did hire Scott and his crew to redo the downstairs bath (not in Dan's scope) and we were pleased as punch.

It made sense then, that after Dan, if Scott wanted the job, that he'd be perfect to step in.

Scott and his guys got started in late August/ early September and basically helped turn this thing around. They finished the master bath and closet, finished all the trim, backsplash, ripped out and reinstalled Dan's terrible bathroom tile job, finished the banister--you get the point.

Without Scott, Gary, Brandon, Lloyd, and Steve--NONE of this house would be done. We still have quite a punch out list going, but we leave for Disney Monday, and I feel like we are going in good shape. When we get back, it's full speed ahead to get ready for the holidays, but I feel very lucky to have found such a caring and talented group of guys.
